Biratnagar. Entrepreneurs here have demanded the government to continue the subsidy on goods exported from Nepal.
Issuing a press release today, the Morang Chamber of Commerce and Industry has protested that the Department of Industry has issued a notice stating that the applications of exporters who have already exported in the fiscal year 2081/82 will not be accepted this year.
Nepali exporters who have been facing tough challenges to compete in the international market from landlocked countries protested the Department’s work against the fact that it has been continuing its export trade amidst economic recession and political transition.
“The Department’s notice not to proceed with the process of receiving export subsidy for the last fiscal year as it has been making significant contribution to earning foreign currency by exporting as per the export promotion policy of the government will have a long-term negative impact on the morale of the exporters and the export sector of Nepal,” he said.
“It is also the responsibility of the government to protect the rights and interests of the Nepali exporters and industrial entrepreneurs,” the statement reads, adding that the association demands extension of the deadline for Nepali exporters to submit an application in the format as per Schedule-3 along with self-declaration for the fiscal year 2081/82 in the case of the notice issued by the Department of Industry dated 2082/06/23. ’
Issuing bonds equivalent to the export subsidy amount, the NRNA President Anupam Rathi urged the government to protect the Nepali exporters by issuing bonds equivalent to the export subsidy amount that appears to be outstanding for the current fiscal year, taking the current financial limit, transitional situation and uncomfortable and unusual situation of the country.
