Kathmandu. President Ram Chandra Poudel has urged the political parties to focus on the election scheduled for March 4, saying the election was the only alternative for safeguarding the country, people, democracy and the constitution.
President Poudel urged this during an all-party meeting called by the interim government at Sheetal Niwas on Friday. He also urged the government to make necessary arrangements for peace and security and assure the general public to hold the elections in a free and fair environment.
President Poudel stressed the need for holding the election together for safeguarding democracy. Poudel urged the political parties to put forward any ambiguity and ambiguity in the meeting and also think about where it would take the country if alternative other than election was sought.
He also urged the parties to go to the people saying that they would fulfill Jenji’s demands without creating confusion and that the government should immediately address the concerns of the security of the parties.
Leaders of the political parties present in the meeting said that the political parties believing in democracy were always ready to go for election, adding that the existing security arrangements have raised doubts regarding holding the election in a free and fair environment. They said that the government should be able to remove this doubt and assure that the elections will be held in a free, fair and fear-free environment.
Interim Prime Minister Sushila Karki said the government was well aware that the election would not be held without the cooperation of the political parties and assured that the government would make arrangements for peace and security to hold the election in a free, fair and fear-free manner. “Since they are the sons and grandsons of all of us, they understand why they are expressing such dissatisfaction today and urge the parties to embrace the change and move forward,” she said.
Prime Minister Karki and other ministers were present in the meeting. The meeting was also attended by NC Vice-President Purna Bahadur Khadka, General Secretary Gagan Thapa, CPN-UML Senior Vice-Chairman Ishwor Pokharel and General Secretary Shankar Pokharel, from CPN (Maoist Centre) senior vice-chairman Narayan Kaji Shrestha and Secretary Barsha Man Pun.
Acting President DP Aryal and Joint General Secretary Bipin Kumar Acharya of Rastriya Swatantra Party, Spokesperson Gyanendra Shahi and Mina Lama of Rastriya Prajatantra Party and Vice-Chairman Rajendra Pandey and General Secretary Ghanashyam Bhusal of CPN (Unified Socialist) were also present in the meeting.
Similarly, Renu Yadav of Janata Samajbadi Party, Bidyut Bajracharya and Prakash Adhikari of Janata Samajbadi Party, Chandra Kanta Raut and Jaya Kumar Raut of Janamat Party, Gyanendra Jha and Sarbendra Nath Shukla of Loktantrik Samajbadi Party, Resham Chaudhary of Nagrik Unmukti Party and Sunil Prajapati of Nepal Workers and Peasants Party also participated in the meeting.
