Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: Nine people lost their lives in 175 road accidents in the Kathmandu Valley till date.
A total of 175 vehicles have met with accidents in Kathmandu Valley since the beginning of the Dashain festival, resulting in injuries sustained to 188 people, according to Kathmandu Valley Traffic Office Spokesperson and Superintendent of Police (SP) Naresh Raj Subedi. According to him, most of the accidents took place at night.
Spokesperson Subedi said that the number of road accidents in the Kathmandu Valley has decreased significantly this year as compared to the last year. “We had tightened checking on vehicles even before the Dashain festival started, the traffic police were active in checking alcoholism, inspecting driving licenses and paying attention to speed limit,” he said. ’
Traffic police have appealed to motorists to use caution, especially when driving at night, not drink alcohol, follow traffic rules and support checking vehicles for safe travel.
Subedi said that the risk of road accidents increases due to deserted road at night, drivers not taking precautions, and in some cases driving at high speed in a drunk condition.
KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police has urged the citizens to remain extra alert as the risk of road accidents increases due to the rush of people returning home after enjoying the festival and the excitement of the time.
