Kathmandu. The government has started terminating the irrigation contracts that have been left in limbo for years due to the contracting but not carrying out the works.
The Babai Irrigation Project (Babai Irrigation Project) on Thursday terminated the contract agreement signed with Aman Construction Company Gulariya-5 about six years ago.
The project had signed a contract agreement with the company in the fiscal year 2077÷78 BS for the maintenance of the canal, protection of the command area and maintenance of the building. Out of 6 contracts, the construction progress of four is zero. One has made 30 per cent progress while the other has made 55 per cent progress.
Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Physical Infrastructure and Transport, and Urban Development Kulman Ghising directed subordinate bodies to annul the sick contract plan to end the tendency of not completing the projects and delaying the projects.
The project has said that it has not given any notice to complete the work even after the expiry of the contract period, leaving the work in the middle without starting the work as per the agreement despite the notice published time and again.
A notice has been issued asking the concerned authorized person to be present at the project office with evidences within 15 days if there is any concrete reason not to take action against the project by terminating the contract agreement.
If the evidence submitted is not reliable or satisfactory as per the rules, the process of forfeiting and blacklisting the amount kept for performance guarantee and bail as per the provisions of the agreement and public procurement law will proceed.
Contracts for 25 projects including Bheri Babai and Sunkoshi Marin Multipurpose Projects under the Department of Irrigation are sick. Of them, the process of annulling the contracts of 6 has been initiated.
