Karnali. Nepal Telecom, Karnali Provincial Directorate, Surkhet has forwarded works to expand access to communications service throughout Karnali State.

Nepal Telecom Karnali Province Directorate, Surkhet’s director Dr Kamal Lamichhane has said that the service of 4G and fibernet will be expanded throughout Karnali state. According to him, communication services have been expanded in 37 local levels of the district so far.

“We have started works with the goal of strengthening network in the rural areas and expanding communication service in the remote settlements”, he said. The 132 kV Kohalpur-Surkhet electricity transmission is connected to Surkhet and will make it easier to expand fiber-net service. Preparations are underway to expand fiber net to Chingad rural municipality of Surkhet as well.

Director Lamichhane said works were underway to expand the fiber net up to Dailekh, Kalikot and Sinja districts. According to him, technicians are working door-to-door for this. The BTS service has been brought into operation in 10 places including Upper Dolpa, Rukum West, Jajarkot, Surkhet, Lekhfarsa and other places under the central plan.

He said that communication services could be expanded if the solar system and electrification were strong. Stating that advance has been provided to the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) for 30 sites across the State, he said that the market areas of 16 local levels of the remote settlements have been reached and works are being carried out as per the vision of Digital Karnali Conclave.

Stating that BTS is working in Mudkechula of Dolpa district, he said that if that is not done, the service will be operated through ring net and the service will be expanded in Surkhet and surrounding areas. Nepal Telecom’s Regional Directorate Surkhet has stated that the plan is to bring the service to Hilsa of Humla within this year.
