} Bulls that serve the welfare of humanity by ploughing throughout the year are also worshiped today and given sweet food. The bull is also worshiped as the vehicle of Lord Mahadev i.e. bull. Similarly, farmers who plow oxen and other agricultural work throughout the year are also worshiped and served sweets. That is why this day is also called Hali Tihar.

Today, a mountain of cow dung is made in the courtyard and worshiped as Govardhan mountain. In the Dwapar era, it is customary to worship Govardhan mountain in the memory of Lord Krishna lifting the Govardhan mountain with his palm and saving the people of Gokul from the torrential rains.
