Kathmandu. Although there is less police presence on the streets of Kathmandu during Dashain after the Genji agitation, there has been increased activity during Tihar. Due to the active presence of the police, no major accident took place during the festival.

“There is a record of 16 accidents involving minor two-wheelers in the Kathmandu Valley on the day of Tihar,” said Superintendent of Police (SP) Naresh Raj Subedi, spokesperson of the Traffic Police Office. ”

According to him, 199 people have been booked for drunken driving in the Kathmandu Valley alone. At least 15 people sustained minor injuries.

Chief of the Kathmandu Traffic Police Office and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Nawaraj Adhikari said that the security measures were strictly implemented during Tihar. He said, “During Tihar, surveillance was increased through CC cameras against careless driving, and there was a significant presence of traffic police on the road.” ”

According to him, the police personnel were continuously engaged in managing the movement of vehicles in Bhaktapur, Lalitpur, New Bus Park, Koteshwor, Ratnapark, Kalanki, Chabahil, among other busy areas. He said that he himself was working on the road all day.

“It is our duty more than Bhai Tika, our Tihar is to work on the roads for the citizens and the country,” said Adhikari, addressing the team members, adding, “It is imperative for the traffic police to remain alert as the incidents of road accidents and drunken driving are high during the festivals.” ”
