Rukum West. At least eight people were killed when a jeep met with an accident at Banfikot rural municipality-7 in Rukum (West) on Sunday morning.
Seven people died on the spot while one died while one was rushed to the District Hospital Salle when the jeep (Ra 1 Ja 422) met with an accident on Friday evening en route to Syalakhadi of Aathbiskot municipality-2 from district headquarters Khalanga.
The deceased have been identified as Kamala Oli, 30, Tekjung Budha, 16, Dilmaya Budha, 15, Manika Oli, 17, Sharmila BK, 18, Gopal Oli, 22, Kalpana Nepal, 15, and Sabita BK, 28, of Aathbiskot municipality-1, according to Police Inspector Hari Prasad Pun of District Police Office Rukum West. According to him, 10 people were injured in the accident.
The injured have been identified as Srijana Budha, 17, Sapana Nepal, 15, Juna Budha, 18, Sangita Budha, 17, and Shanti Budha, 19, of Aathbiskot municipality-2. The injured have been identified as Anjana Airee, 17, Mahima Oli, 20, Manisha Thapa, 17, Sabita BK, 15, and driver Top Jung Budha, 34. Nine of the injured are undergoing treatment at the District Hospital, Salle, while 18-year-old Juna Budha has been referred to Nepalgunj for further treatment.
The jeep fell 700 meters down from the road. According to the police, overload and narrow road might have caused the accident.
