Kathmandu. The Chhath Ghat in Janakpur has started with hustle and bustle since early morning for the Chhath festival.
The festival concludes with the ritual of offering Arghya to the setting sun today and Arghya to the rising sun tomorrow morning.
Chhath festival is the great festival of the Terai people to increase human interest in truth and non-violence and to encourage sympathy for all living beings. This festival is celebrated by all the castes and communities of the Terai in a common way.
This is the only festival in the world in which the setting and rising sun are worshiped. The arrangement of utensils for this festival starts a month in advance.
According to the Mahabharata, when the Pandavas, including Draupadi, were in exile, they worshiped the Sun God to make the secret stay successful. It is said that at that time the Pandavas lived in the area of King Virat of Mithila. According to folklore, the tradition of celebrating Chhath started from this time ।
