Trident. Locals have obstructed disposal of garbage at Bancharedanda. Vehicles carrying garbage from the Kathmandu Valley have returned without disposing the garbage at Kakani of Nuwakot and Dhunabesi of Dhading.
Dipendra Lama, a local of Dhunabesi municipality-1, said that the locals have obstructed the disposal of garbage, demanding the implementation of the agreement reached in the past including the scientific management of the waste disposal.
According to him, the main demand is to implement the 18-point agreement reached in the past for the management of waste at the Sisdol-Bancharedanda-Kundu landfill area. Locals of Kakani Rural Municipality-1 and 2 and Dhunabesi Municipality-1, 2 and 3 have sent back the vehicles that came to dispose of garbage from the Sangam Dhande road of the district.
Locals have demanded implementation of the agreement reached with Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) that the waste disposal would be carried out only during night time as mentioned in the 18-point agreement reached on Jestha 9, 2079 BS.
They have complained that the non-implementation of the agreement has hampered daily life by spreading foul smell from the garbage in the affected areas. Hundreds of locals have been demonstrating peacefully in the Sisdole, Kundule and Dhande roads demanding that the representatives of Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) should come to the affected areas to address their demands and express commitment to implement the agreement.
The people’s representatives and political representatives of Kakani and Dhunbesi have also joined the protest against the disposal of garbage, demanding implementation of past agreements.
