Meeting between government, political parties and Genji representatives: Emphasis on promoting good governance along with election

Kathmandu. A tripartite discussion was held between the government, political parties and Genji representatives to create an environment conducive for the election. The tripartite meeting has been organized for the first time at the call of Prime Minister Sushila Karki. The meeting held at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar dwelt on the issues of making the elections successful, maintaining good governance in the country and controlling corruption.

Sharing about the meeting, government spokesperson and Minister for Communications and Information Technology Jagadish Kharel said that the first meeting of the government, political parties and Genji representatives was held in a cordial atmosphere at the call of the Prime Minister. He said discussions were held between the government, political parties and Genji representatives and it was agreed that such discussions would be continued.

Minister Kharel said, “This meeting has been held for the first time on behalf of the government. We had a very positive conversation in a very cordial atmosphere. In the meeting, Prime Minister Karki said that tripartite talks have begun and it would be continued. Stating that it was the responsibility of all to build the nation, he stressed the need to move ahead being united.

According to Minister Kharel, the main objective of the meeting was to maintain the election, maintain good governance, control corruption as well as investigate the loss of life and property during the Genji movement and take action against them. In particular, the government, political parties and Genji representatives have held discussions on how to move ahead by forging mutual understanding.

“The tripartite talks were very fruitful and cordial,” Kharel said, adding, “There was a lack of communication especially between the political parties and the Jejani generation.” There was no formal dialogue. Although the discussion was held informally, formal talks could not take place. ’

There has been an in-depth discussion on how the state should prioritise and implement the issues raised by the Genji representatives. All the representatives of the political parties present and the representatives of Genji have taken it positively and the government believes that the country will move forward smoothly now.

Responding to a query of media persons, Minister Kharel said that all the political parties participating in the talks had positive views regarding the election. He also drew the attention of the government to make arrangement of security and resources for making conducive environment for the election.

The Nepali Congress has expressed its support for the election. Positive things have come from the CPN (Maoist) as well. The CPN-UML also has no problem going for the election, but the government is interested in working to create an environment conducive for it, which has been taken positively. Minister Kharel said that most of the political parties present in the meeting said that they would support the government if it moves ahead for the election.

The meeting was attended by about 15 representatives from political parties and an equal number of Genji representatives. Representatives of Genji have raised similar demands during the Genji movement. Accordingly, he stressed on the need of good governance and controlling corruption in the country. They also expressed the view that ensuring good governance and controlling corruption should be taken together while holding the elections. Genji had raised the issue that political parties should be more responsible.

This is the first time that the government, which has been holding intensive talks with the concerned parties for creating an environment conducive for the elections, has held talks with the government, political parties and the Genji generation. Earlier, the government and the political parties had held discussions on October 4.

The all-party meeting called by Prime Minister Sushila Karki had agreed to hold the election on the stipulated date. Various formal discussions and dialogues were also held on the occasion. The parties concerned have said that the formal political dialogue after a long time has created an atmosphere for the election.

The government has taken forward all kinds of works in preparation for the elections. The government has been holding discussions with the Election Commission at different stages and has been pressing for conducive environment for the election. The EC has already made necessary preparations for the election.
