Kathmandu. Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has received approval to renew the export permit for 283 MW of electricity. The Central Electricity Authority (CEA) on Wednesday renewed its approval to export 283 MW of electricity generated from eight hydropower projects in Nepal.
NEA has been selling surplus power in the country at competitive rates in the day-ahead and real-time market of the Indian Energy Exchange (IX) and also in Haryana and Bihar states as per the bilateral mid-term power sales agreement.
Electricity is also being exported to Bangladesh using India’s transmission infrastructure. 4 projects that were approved to sell electricity at competitive rates in the Indian Energy Exchange (IX) market have been renewed.
The approval received for the sale of 103 MW of electricity from the project had expired on different dates. The export renewal approval of all the projects has been approved for about one year with effect from last Tuesday.
Similarly, as per the bilateral agreement, about 180 electricity generated from 4 projects was being sold to the state of Haryana. The permission granted to the state of Haryana for sale will expire on Thursday (today). NEA sells electricity to Haryana in June-October every year.
The NEA had also sought permission to sell power to IX, which has been permitted to sell power to Haryana. The Central Electricity Authority of India (CEA) has approved the proposal. The electricity produced from 4 hydropower projects will be sold to IX continuously from Friday.
Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Physical Infrastructure and Transport and Urban Development Kul Man Ghising, during his visit to New Delhi, to attend the eighth session of the International Solar Alliance (ISA), urged him to ease the electricity export approval process of India. He urged the government to immediately approve the proposal sent for electricity renewables as this is the best time for power generation in Nepal.
