Mustang. The 9-km Kagbeni-Chhusang road, which was disrupted due to incessant rainfall on Thursday night, has come into operation from today. According to the District Police Office, Mustang, the traffic along the Kagbeni-Chusang road section has resumed from today following necessary repairs.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Chhiring Kippa Lama said that the road has been brought into operation at the initiative of the District Administration Office, Baragung Mukti Chhetra Rural Municipality, security agencies and Kaligandaki Corridor (Beni-Jomsom-Korala) Road Project.
According to him, more than 350 vehicles stranded at Chhusang of Baragung Mukti Chhetra-3 have left for their destinations with the resumption of the Kagbeni-Chhusang road block. “We have asked the Kagbeni Police Post to collect details about the number of vehicles stranded at Chusang while more than 350 vehicles including jeeps, cars, motorcycles and goods have been stranded at Jomsom,” he said.
Lama further informed that although the Kagbeni-Chusang road has come into operation, a team has left for the area with equipment to repair the obstructed road at Chaile of Baragung Mukti Chhetra-3 linking Korlana. “There is a problem in Chaile at present, around 35 meters of the road has been washed away by the landslide and efforts are being made to repair the road and open the road by this evening,” he said. According to him, a team from Loghekar Damodar Kunda rural municipality has already arrived for the repair of the road.
Customs Service Affected
The snowfall and adverse weather have affected the service flow at the Mustang Customs Office based at Chhoser Nhechung in Lomanthang-2. The snowfall on Tuesday followed by incessant rain has disrupted the service at the Mustang Customs Office, said Dilli Ram Subedi, an officer at the Mustang Customs Office.
Though electricity and internet facilities are required for customs clearance, the import and internet services have been disrupted in Upper Must÷ang for the past few days, according to Customs Officer Subedi.
Subedi said some customs officials could not come to work due to obstruction of Jomsom-Korala road.
According to Customs Officer Subedi, more than 50 containers carrying Chinese goods from Korala border point have been stranded at the Customs Office due to disruption of electricity and internet services. More than 100 cargo vehicles have been stranded at Jomsom and Kagbeni for the past two days due to the obstruction of the Kagbeni-Korala road.
