Westerly wind likely to cause rain in hilly and mountainous areas

Kathmandu. The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has forecast light rain in some hilly and mountainous areas of the country as the influence of the Westerly wind is still in place.

According to the Meteorological Forecasting Division, there will be partly cloudy in the hilly region of the country. Similarly, the weather will be mainly fair in most places. Light rain will occur in some places while snowfall is predicted in the high hilly region of Koshi and Gandaki provinces.

Normal life was affected for few days due to rains caused by Cyclone ‘Montha’ that developed in the Bay of Bengal. Snowfall accompanied by rainfall was also seen in the mountainous region. As many as 13 domestic and foreign tourists were trapped at the base camp of Tilicho Lake at Disyang rural municipality-9 in Manang. They were rescued by a team from Armed Police Force’s Mountain Rescue Training Centre, Manang.

According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), rainfall was measured at 301 rainfall measurement stations across the country from November 30 morning to November 30. Among them, 185 rain measurement stations have provided significant rainfall details.

The highest rainfall of 71.1 millimetres was recorded at Beshisahar centre of Lamjung. Four of the stations recorded rainfall received more than 50 millimetres.
