Kathmandu. A meeting of Nepal-India Joint Secretary level technical team was held in Kathmandu on Friday.
The program was co-chaired by Sandip Kumar Dev, Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Government of Nepal and Bhagawan Sahaya Bairwa, Chief Engineer, Central Electricity Authority, Government of India.
During the meeting, discussions were held on power exchange, improvement of transmission system and construction of new inter-country transmission lines.
Various 7-point agreements have been reached in the meeting. In which Chamelia-Jauljivi is 220 kV. Both Nepal and India have submitted their Detailed Project Reports (DPs) of double circuit transmission line and agreed that joint technical teams of both countries will complete the project by November 2025.
Work on the new Butwal-Gorakhpur 400 kV transmission line will be completed by December 2027. Arrangements were made to temporarily operate the line at 220 kV. An agreement has been reached to hold another meeting with the Uttar Pradesh Transmission Company within 15 days regarding the import and export capacity of electricity through the transmission line.
Power exchange capacity was reassessed along the Dhalkebar-Muzaffarpur and Dhalkebar-Sitamarhi lines. According to the project, Nepal has the capacity to export up to 1,500 MW of electricity and import up to 1,400 MW of electricity from Nepal. Nepal will provide the required technical details for the preparation of the DPR of double circuit line within a month and a joint technical team of both countries
will prepare DPR.
Lamhi – Lucknow 400 kV A final study on the termination point of the line on the Nepal side of the line will be either Lamahi or Kohalpur and the DPR will be prepared.
Similarly, Dhalkewar-Muzaffarpur 400 KV DPR preparation will be forwarded on the adoption of high temperature tolerance technology in the reconducting of the line, Raxaul-Parwanipur and Ramnagar-Gandak 132 KV will be started. In order to increase the capacity of the lines, it has been agreed to conduct a joint study to replace the conductors of these lines with technology conductors that can withstand high temperatures.
