Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: The Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Centre) and the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Socialist) have announced their unification with each other.

CPN (Maoist Centre), Unified Socialist, Nepal Socialist Party, Jana Samajbadi Party Nepal, CPN (Maoist Centre), CPN (Maoist Socialist) and CPN (Communist) have announced unification at a special function organized at Bhrikutimandap today.

After the announcement of unification, the unified party has been named ‘Nepali Communist Party’. The meeting was attended by CPN (Maoist Centre) Coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, CPN (Maoist Centre) Chair Madhav Kumar Nepal, CPN (Maoist Centre) leader Narayan Kaji Shrestha, CPN (Unified Socialist) leader Bamdev Gautam, Nepal Samajbadi Party Chair Mahendra Ray Yadav and CPN (Communist Party) General Secretary Chiran Pun among others.

The guiding principle of the unified party is Marxism-Leninism and the programme is scientific socialism with Nepali characteristics. On the occasion, the party’s election symbol ‘Panchkune Tara’ was made public.

On the occasion, senior leader of Unified Socialist Party and member of the unity coordination committee, Pramesh Hamal, said that unity among various leftist factions was the need of the hour to fulfill the goal of socialist revolution through good governance, social justice and economic transformation. According to him, the party’s immediate strategy is to prepare the base for socialism by safeguarding the achievements of capitalist democratic revolution, protecting national independence, good governance, social justice, socio-economic prosperity and transformation.

The unified parties have agreed to organize the unity national general convention within the next 6 months. The central committee will be formed on the basis of mutual consensus by merging the former central committees of the parties participating in the unification process. The central committee will have the post of coordinator and joint coordinator. There will also be a provision of coordinator and joint coordinator in all the committees of the province, district, municipality and ward levels.

The nine political parties have agreed to form delegates, projects and organizational structures participating in the national conference and unity general convention on mutual agreement and understanding. The party committees shall be operated in accordance with the principle of democratic centralism based on collective leadership.
