Kathmandu. Nepali Congress leader Dr Shekhar Koirala has insisted on the need of holding the party’s 15th general convention by mid-January.

In a discussion with the district presidents and former district presidents available in Kathmandu, he said that if the general convention could not be held in coming December due to the need of the hour and the present situation, it should be held by mid-January at any cost.

Leader Koirala said, “The general convention should be held before the upcoming general election and the election should be held with a new and fresh leadership.” I have been saying for a long time that the general convention should be held by mid-November. ’

Stressing the need of preparing the general convention schedule without contradicting with the schedule published by the Election Commission, he pointed out the need for the NC to move ahead being united, serious, responsible and with patience.

“All those associated with the party should keep the nation, people and democracy in priority,” he said. As the party has faced many ups and downs in the past, it should unite as per the feeling that unity is the strength in the future. Stating that he wanted unity and reconciliation in the party, he pointed out the need to move ahead without any prejudice to end factionalism, sub-faction and division, according to Koirala’s Secretariat.

Leader Koirala said, “Honest, sincere and continuously active friends across the country are saving the party. Millions of well-wishers of the party and all the outside parties are now watching and waiting for the decision of the Congress. ’
