Taplejung. The price of cardamom, a major cash crop in the eastern hilly region, has increased lately. The price of cardamom has crossed Rs 100,000 per 40 kg in Taplejung.

According to Bhadrabir Regmi, district president of Cardamom Entrepreneurs’ Association, the price of quality cardamom is being sold at Rs one lakh two thousand per kilogram. On Saturday, the price of cardamom was Rs 96,000 per maund, which has gone up by Rs 2,000 to Rs 98,000 in the afternoon. According to him, the rate of four thousand per person has increased to one lakh two thousand on Sunday.

The price of cardamom which remained stable at Rs 85,000 per kg till the second week of October has increased by Rs 15,000-17,000 in a month. Traders said that the price of cardamom which started trading at Rs 80,000 per maund after the start of new production has increased this year. Cardamom produced in Nepal is exported to third countries via Indian market.
