Kathmandu. Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Jagadish Kharel, has urged all Nepalis in South Korea to work as a guardian of all Nepalis. Inspecting the Nepali Embassy in Seoul, South Korea, Minister Kharel stressed the need of facilitating the rights and problems of Nepalis in South Korea.
On the occasion, Minister Kharel urged the envoy to play a role in creating an environment conducive for bringing more and more Korean investment in Nepal by establishing Nepal-Korea relations. In the context of complaints received that South Korean Ambassador to Nepal failed to work in favour of Nepalis and failed to play effective role in expanding relations and cooperation between the two countries, Minister Kharel urged the people to work in a Nepali-friendly manner and take initiatives for mutual interest and cooperation between the two countries.
Minister Kharel said that the Nepali Embassy should be the guardian of Nepalis and the Nepali Embassy should establish relations between Nepal and Korea and also expand the Korean relations to the maximum extent possible in Nepal. Ambassador to Nepal Dr Shivamaya Tumbahamphe said that they could not work effectively due to the dispute between some Non-Resident Nepalis Association (NRNA) and a limited number of employees. “I am committed to work for the welfare of Nepalis and for the welfare of Nepalis as a whole,” he asserted.
On the occasion, Minister Kharel drew the attention of the embassy to take initiative for the operation of Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) direct flight to Seoul of South Korea. He also urged the Nepali Embassy in South Korea to take initiatives to resolve various problems related to the mental health of the Nepalis working in South Korea. He said that he would take initiative to send more human resources to the Embassy as per the quota.
On the occasion, Minister Kharel also urged the concerned countries to take the changed political system and the latest changes to the Nepalis living there and take them to the diplomatic space of the concerned countries. He stressed the need for the Nepali embassy and diplomatic missions to disseminate the message that Nepal is heading towards elections after regaining peace and stability following the Genji movement. Minister Kharel also inspected the Nepali Embassy in Seoul and held discussions with the ambassadors and staff. On the occasion, Minister Kharel took stock of the activities carried out by the Embassy and directed the government regarding the priorities and the works to be carried out by the Embassy.
Minister Kharel had left for South Korea on November 10 leading a Nepali delegation to participate in the 11th Global ICT Leadership Forum held in Seoul, South Korea. Minister Kharel is accompanied by his personal secretary Uddhav Bhattarai. The ICT Leadership Forum was jointly organized by the Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT) of Korea and the National Information Society Agency (NIA).
