Chitwan. After the ban on illegal eggs, Nepali farmers have got the cost price of their eggs.
The illegal entry of eggs has been stopped due to the tightening at the Indian border due to the elections. With this, the price of eggs in Nepal has increased drastically.
Nepal Layers Poultry Farmers’ Association, which has been issuing support price based on farmers’ farm price, has increased the price list of poultry farmers. The maximum (XL) egg per crate (of 30) is 520, the large egg is 505 and the medium egg is 490.
According to Binod Pokharel, president of the association, the price has increased by Rs 55 per crate compared to the previous price. According to him, Nepali eggs got the cost price after the illegal entry of Indian eggs was stopped. According to him, the illegal import of eggs has not been possible due to the tightening of the border due to the elections in India and the increase in the price of eggs there.
Association’s advisor Trilochan Kandel said eggs are being sold in India at Rs 7.80 per egg. No attempt has been made to import eggs from Nepal illegally after getting good price in India. Kandel said, “Farmers are getting cost price as Indian eggs are not imported into Nepal.” The cost of eggs in Nepal is Rs 16.57 per egg. He said that farmers in Nepal are getting the cost price while selling eggs at the current rate.
Association president Pokharel, who has been involved in the marketing of eggs in Nepal, said that the consumption of eggs has increased in the winter months. According to him, the demand for eggs has increased as it has created awareness about the need to eat eggs to protect from cold in winter. Three months ago, the price of eggs had dropped to 400 per crate from Rs 530 per crate. Again, the farmers are in a position to get the cost price due to the gradual increase. With this, farmers will be benefited. It is estimated that around 40 lakh eggs are produced in Nepal every day.
