Permanent reconstruction of BP Highway begins

Kathmandu. The construction of the BP Highway, which was damaged by repeated floods and landslides, has begun. According to the Division Road Office, Bhaktapur, permanent reconstruction of the highway has begun from three places along the highway which is a short distance connecting eastern and mid-hill areas of Nepal with the federal capital Kathmandu.

Floods and landslides in the second week of September last year and in the third week of September this year had damaged around 30 kilometers of the highway along the Kavrepalanchowk and Sindhuli sections. According to the office, the construction of the damaged highway has been started on a temporary basis since last year after floods and landslides swept away various sections of the road.

Chief of the office, divisional engineer Suman Yogesh said that works for permanent reconstruction of three sections of the damaged road have been forwarded after the contract was signed. According to him, the permanent construction work has started from Chaukidanda, Mangaltar, Narke Gimdi, among other areas of the three sections that have been damaged towards Kavrepalanchowk.

According to the office, the target is to complete the construction of three major sections within the next two years. According to Yogesh, the highway will be upgraded and a two-lane road will be constructed in the next reconstruction.
