Kathmandu. A ‘Tourism Information Centre’ has been set up at Thamel, a major tourist destination in the federal capital. The Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Bagmati Province has established the ‘Tourism Information Center’ in collaboration with Kathmandu Metropolitan City-26 and Thamel Tourism Development Council.
Minister for Culture and Tourism of Bagmati Province Bimal Thakuri inaugurated the centre today. Speaking on the occasion, Minister Thakuri expressed the belief that the information centre would not only help thamel but also nepal’s tourism development.
Stating that Bagmati Province has set up a tourism information centre at Thamel after Chitwan, he said tourists would get to know about nepal’s tourism activities through this centre. A public toilet will also be constructed in Thamel, he said.
Kathmandu Metropolitan City-26 Ward Chair Khyam Raj Tiwari expressed the belief that the information center would help 80 percent of the foreign tourists visiting Nepal.
Secretary at the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Bagmati Province, Dipendra Subedi, said that the state government is going to publish a ‘travel book’ covering the tourist destinations of all the districts within the province. He said the state government was working to move ahead by linking the tourism information center with technology.
Chief of Tourism Office, Kathmandu Bhakta Bahadur Bhandari, Chairman of Thamel Tourism Development Council Dhurba Adhikari, former President Dr Ram Sharan Thapaliya, Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal (TAAN) President Sagar Pandey, among others, said the establishment of tourism information centre would make it easier for tourists and help in tourism promotion.
Pawan Kumar Pokharel, chief of the Tourism Division at the Bagmati State Tourism Ministry, said that the information center will provide information about nepal’s trekking routes, transport, hotels, local art and culture among others.
Thamel Tourism Development Council Vice-Chair Sahdev Dhamala said that the council is working to organize Thamel, which recognizes Nepal’s identity at the international level. He expressed the belief that the state government would continue its support and cooperation in the coming days to make thamel area dynamic.
