River control project completed at a cost of Rs 30 million

Myagdi. Myagdi: A river control project has been completed at four places in Myagdi at a cost of Rs 36.5 million.

The Irrigation and Water Resources Management Project Pokhara under the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation has constructed embankments and composite walls to control river erosion and flooding. Project engineer Narjung Gurung said the project was constructed at Darwang, Tatopani, Singa and Lamgara in the current fiscal year 2081/82 BS.

A 66-metre-long, four-metre-wide 3-3-metre-high concrete and gabin wall have been constructed on the banks of myagdi river behind Saraswati Secondary School at Masar of Singa Tatopani of Beni municipality÷-4.

Sahana-BRT JV, which had signed a contract worth Rs 15.5 million in February last year for the construction of the project estimated to cost Rs 27 million, completed the work before the monsoon.

A 26-metre long composite technology wall has been constructed on the banks of myagdi river at Darwang, the centre of Malika rural municipality. A 150-metre-long gabion wall has been constructed on the banks of myagdi river at Singa of Beni municipality-4 and a 150-metre-long gabion wall has been constructed on the bank of Kaligandaki river at Lamgara of ward-1.

The river control plan of Darwang, Singa and Lamgara with an allocation of Rs 7 million each has been implemented through the users’ committee. Jacketing has been plastered on the outside of the gabion wall constructed in Lamgara to prevent wire mesh from getting irritated.

Kamal Thapa, chairman of the users’ committee of lamgara’s river control project, said settlements, cultivable land and wells of Ratnechaur Lift Drinking Water Project have been conserved after the embankment.

This year, contracts have been signed with various construction companies for controlling the river at four more places at a cost of Rs 97.5 million. RRC JV has signed a contract worth Rs 27.1 million for the construction of a 102-meter long composite technology wall on the banks of myagdi river for the conservation of Singa Tatopani Market and Rs 42.159 million with Rupal-Supreme for the construction of a 165-meter composite wall on the bank of myagdi river at Darwang Bus Park area in Beni.

Gurung Baje Mandali JV has signed a contract worth Rs 7.4 million for the construction of a 50-meter long composed wall for the conservation of Gayatri Temple of Raghuganga Rural Municipality-3. Sahana-Gopi JV has signed a contract worth Rs 20.95 million for the construction of 80-meter concrete wall on the bank of Kaligandaki river.

Project chief Bidurman Shrestha said that the project will be completed in the next fiscal year. Residents of the coastal areas have started feeling safe as the river control project in Beni and surrounding areas has gained momentum.
