Kathmandu. Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Deepak Khadka, has said that hydropower projects with a capacity of around 90 MW have been brought into operation.

Replying to the queries of lawmakers in today’s meeting of the National Assembly, Minister Khadka shared that a total of 90 MW capacity hydropower projects including Chilime, Devighat, Trishuli, Suryakunda, Buddhabhumi and Upper Maulung have been brought into operation. He informed that the 60 MW Trishuli ‘A’ hydropower project would be operational in a few days.

Minister Khadka said that work has already started to bring the high capacity projects into operation at the earliest.

“It will take some time for the 111 MW Rasuwagadhi hydropower project to come into operation,” he said. Its headworks have been completely damaged. We have already started work to bring it into operation as soon as possible. ’

In the previous meeting of the Assembly, Minister Khadka had informed that about 260 MW of national transmission system has been cut off due to severe damage to the power projects and transmission structures operating in the Trishuli River Corridor due to the Rasuwa floods. He urged the people to remain alert as the flood water level in the area is receding but the risk remains the same.

Stating that detailed study and evaluation work has been carried out, Minister Khadka said that all precautionary measures have been taken. “We will make the early warning system more technology-friendly, active and effective,” he said, adding that there is a need to institutionalize the risk assessment and monitoring of glacial lakes. ’
