Kathmandu. CpN (Maoist Centre) lawmaker Renu Chand has urged the government to launch a campaign to demolish chhaugoths to end chhaupadi system. He has appealed to all the three levels of government, civil society and stakeholders for this.

In an emergency meeting of the National Assembly today TAG_OPEN_div_6, Lawmaker Chand called upon the political parties not to give political membership to the people and people’s representatives who continue the chhaupadi system. Paying homage to 28-year-old Kamala Auji, who died in Chhaugoth, he urged the government through the assembly chair to bring those who continued the evil practice under the ambit of legal action.

TAG_OPEN_div_4 Auji died after being bitten by a snake while he was sleeping in a chhaugoth in Krishnapur Municipality of Kanchanpur. “Whether it is legally possible to keep the cowshed or not, those who are involved in criminal crimes should be brought to justice,” chand said.
