Pyuthan. Women of Pyuthan have started the ‘Rato Abir Campaign’.
Around 150 single women have started this campaign through a capacity development program organized by the Social Development Division Office for single women.
Single women have launched the ‘Rato Abir’ campaign, saying that they have to be neglected in the society for wearing white clothes even after losing their husbands and living a single life.
Since red is not a husband’s gift but a gift of nature, women have been forced to break the social evil that red color should not be used when single. The participants said that women should have freedom to wear what color to wear.
In the program organized at Jumri of Pyuthan on Sunday and Monday with the aim of developing the capacity of single women, single women shared their sorrows, difficulties and the stigma faced by the society. They lamented that the driver did not board the vehicle, saying that even if he got into the vehicle, it would be bad.
A woman from Naubahini Rural Municipality, who is living a single life after losing her husband in the pursuit of foreign employment, expressed her grief in front of Lumbini Province lawmaker Nima Giri, the chief guest of the program.
Since the society is rejecting single women and political parties are also curtailing the constitutional rights of women, single women have declared that they are enjoying their rights along with the ‘Rato Abir’ campaign.
Lumbini Province Speaker Tularam Gharti Magar said that the campaign should now be extended to 64 wards of Pyuthan and Singo Lumbini province. Lumbini Province lawmaker Nima Giri urged the Chief District Officer to proactively address the problems of single women and play an important role in preventing violence.
The participants ranged in age from 21 to 60 years old. Everyone was happy to meet many women like him.
