Bhadrapur. In the fiscal year 2081/82 BS, the District Police Office, Jhapa and its subordinate police units have arrested 534 defendants who were absconding after the verdict of various courts. Of those arrested, 463 are men, 70 are women and one is from a sexual minority.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Khagendra Bahadur Khadka said that the absconding defendants were produced before the District Court, Jhapa and the remaining prisoners were sent to jail as per the court’s order. According to him, 248 years, 10 months and 14 days in jail and a fine of Rs 72.72 million have been recovered from the arrested.
Khem Raj Pokharel, 48, of Bhadrapur-8 was convicted by the Supreme Court and sentenced to 10 years in prison. Similarly, pradeep Rai, 32, of Mechinagar-7 was convicted by the Biratnagar and Ilam bench of the High Court and sentenced to 10 years in prison in 2072 BS.
Similarly, 30-year-old Amiralgun Bishwakarma of Birtamod-8 was sentenced to one year, two months and 15 days in jail and fined Rs 28,458,605 by the Patan High Court in a revenue leakage case. According to the District Police Office, a plan has been put forward to make the verdict implementation campaign more strong and effective.
