Agency. Lee Jae-yong, the grandson of Samsung’s chief and founder, has been cleared of allegations of fraud related to the merger of companies in 2015. South Korea’s Supreme Court on Thursday upheld lee’s acquittal by two courts.
Lee, who led Samsung in 2014 after his father Lee Kun-hee suffered a heart attack, was accused of stock manipulation and accounting irregularities to take control of the company.
After the court’s final decision, Samsung’s legal representative said in a statement, “The final decision of the Supreme Court confirms that the Samsung C&T and Samsung process is fully legal, we are grateful to the court for this wise decision that has come after a long legal process and trial.” ”
In 2024, the district court acquitted Lee of all charges in the $8 billion merger case involving the merger of two Samsung subsidiaries. Public prosecutors then appealed and took the case to the High Court, but Lee was again acquitted.
Lee’s legal crisis has come to an end after 10 years of legal wrangling affected Samsung’s leadership. Meanwhile, Samsung is trying to strengthen its business strategies by competing with competing technology companies around the world. Lee Jae-yong’s legal victory is seen as a major relief for Samsung and South Korean industry.
