UML to remove 70 years of age limit and two terms, when will it come into force?

Kathmandu. Kathmandu: The Nepal Communist Party (UML) has passed a proposal to remove the age limit of 70 years and the provision of two terms.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the party secretariat chaired by party chair and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Thursday night.

According to Deputy General Secretary Pradeep Gyawali, the meeting decided to remove the 70-year age limit and two-term provision in Article 64 of the party statute (2078 amendment) while finalizing the proposal to amend the statute presented by vice-president Bishnu Prasad Poudel for the second statute general convention.

Deputy General Secretary Gyawali said that the proposal to amend the statute presented by Vice-Chair Poudel will be presented in the Politburo meeting to be held today and the proposal will be taken to the Central Committee. The meeting decided to have 251 members in the 84-member politburo and central committee, including 15 office-bearers. The politburo meeting is scheduled to be held at 11 am.

Stating that the party has proposed to have two types of members, Deputy General Secretary Gyawali said that one member and the other is an organized member.

A central committee meeting will also be held on August 15 and the new provisions related to age limit and tenure will come into force after the statute general convention to be held on September 20, 21 and 21 approves the proposal.
