Kathmandu. Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has said proportional participation should be ensured within the direct electoral system as it is directly connected with the people.

Receiving a memorandum submitted by a team led by Nepal Voters’ Rights Forum Chair Bhakta Bishwakarma at President Deuba’s residence in Budhanilkantha today for amendment in the draft of the bill to amend and consolidate the laws related to elections, he stressed the need for proportional representation within the direct election as it was directly connected with the people.

“I will also consult with the party and other political parties regarding the amendment to the election bill,” deuba said, adding, “Direct election system is the main basis for reaching the people. ’

In a 21-point memorandum submitted by Forum Chair Bishwakarma, it has been stressed that at least 50 percent candidates should be provided on the basis of the population of women in the direct election system of the House of Representatives and State Assemblies to address inter-community inclusion within women and women. ।

They have demanded that 50 percent of the constituencies should be reserved for women and 13 percent for Dalits in the first-past-the-post elections.
