Zero cases in labour court over 1 year

Kathmandu. The labour court has disposed of all cases that have crossed a year. In the fiscal year 2081/82, the court has reduced the number of cases that exceeded one year to zero.

There were 92 cases in the court ranging from six months to one year. According to Labour Court Registrar Mukunda Niraula, the court has disposed of 461 cases (109.24) against the target of 422 cases by mid-July last year. Now 151 cases are yet to be disposed of in the court.

According to Registrar Niraula, as per the target set by the fifth five-year strategic plan of the judiciary, the target was to dispose of all the cases transferred and at least 50 percent of the newly registered cases. It was estimated that the total number of cases would be 501, including 156 cases transferred from the fiscal year 2080/81 and 345 cases with applications to be registered in that fiscal year.

A total of 612 cases were registered with the registration of 156 cases with transfer of responsibility and 456 cases with new applications, out of which 75.33 percent of the total cases were settled, including all 156 cases of responsibility and 305 cases of new ones.

There is a legal provision to have three judges in the labor court. Janak Pandey is the chairperson of the labour court while Nisha Baniya and Shailendra Kumar Chaurasia are the members.
