Surkhet. The Morimla border point between Nepal and China is to be opened for trade in Upper Dolpa on August 15.

Pemma Wangchen Gurung, vice-chair of She-Phoksundo Rural Municipality, said that the decision to open the border area from August 25 to August 14 was taken after discussions with the officials of Dongba province under Shigatse County of China.

The Morimla border point has been opened once every year for three municipalities of Upper Dolpa. Assistant Chief District Officer Damodar Gyawali informed that 2,200 people have taken border entry passes to cross the border this year. According to the demand of the municipality, the Armed Police Force and Nepal Police will be mobilized up to the border during this period. It was open for 15 days last year.

The people of Upper Dolpa buy daily necessities, clothes and various machinery items from the Morimla border point, which has been open since the past. As upper Dolpa is geographically remote, the transportation cost of purchasing Nepali goods is expensive, so they have been buying Chinese goods at a cheaper price for a year.
