China (Henan). Kathmandu: Deputy Speaker Indira Rana has stressed the urgent need for international solidarity in Nepal to ensure climate justice.

Addressing a programme organised by the Shanghai Cooperation Forum in China’s Henan province on Friday, Deputy Speaker Rana stressed the need for international solidarity to ensure climate justice for Nepal, which has not contributed to climate change but has been directly affected by it.

Speaking on the topic “Nepal’s vision to protect peaceful and stable environment for development”, Deputy Speaker Rana said nepal as a mountainous nation is at the forefront of the climate crisis. “We urgently need international solidarity to mitigate the impacts of climate change, promote green energy and ensure climate justice. “We did not cause this crisis, but we are determined to be part of the solution.” ’

“Platforms like the Shanghai Cooperation Forum will be effective as climate change, inequality, or regional tensions cannot be addressed by just one country,” she said.

Stating that development should reach the most needed places in the hills, terai and remote villages, Deputy Speaker Rana said Nepal was working to free the people from poverty by protecting the environment.

Stating that Nepal has come a long way from conflict to peace, Deputy Speaker Rana said that although the transition to a democratic republic is not easy, it is possible through dialogue, political will and people’s participation. She said she has been guided by the principles of environmental sustainability and benefits from it. Nepal also expressed its shared commitment to peace and progress through strong and historic relations based on mutual respect and cooperation with China.
