Kathmandu. Nag Panchami, which is celebrated every year on the day of Shravan Shukla Panchami, is being celebrated today by worshiping the serpent as per tradition and sticking it at the main door of the house. It is a religious belief that by pasting the picture of a snake in this way, the snake, snake and scorpion can not suffer in the house throughout the year, but also avoid the fear of fire, clouds and lightning.
The practice of nag puja started from the Vedic period. According to Vedic beliefs, the snake is considered the king of snakes. If the snake is angry, there is a shortage of water, so there is a tradition of worshiping the snake for water as well. According to varahapurana, this day is famous for nag puja due to brahma’s dialogue with Nagaraj on Shravan Shukla Panchami. There are snakes in every house.
The tradition of worshiping the snake has also been continued in the religious belief that if the snake sitting under the foundation of the house gets angry, the foundation of the house will be broken. The practice of considering the serpent as Vishnu and Shiva has been there since vedic times.
Lord Shiva wears a garland of serpents and Lord Vishnu sleeps on the bed of shesh naag on water with a hooded umbrella, so both the gods are considered as serpents.
On this day, there is a special crowd of devotees at Nagpokhari, Nagdaha of The Valley and Nagpokhari of Bhaktapur. ।
