President-Women Upliftment Programme saves lives of mother and baby

Kavrepalanchowk. A pregnant woman from Gokule of Mahabharat rural municipality-1 was rescued by helicopter on Tuesday. At the same time, the lives of at-risk mothers and infants have been saved. Renuka Lungeli, 21, who was admitted to the local health post on Monday evening, was rescued.

According to rural municipality chair Kanchhalal Zimba, she was rescued by helicopter with the financial assistance of the President’s Women Rescue Programme. She has been admitted to Paropakar Maternity and Gynaecology Hospital in Kathmandu, said Purnima Tumsing, chief of the health post.

Earlier on Friday afternoon, 28-year-old Dev Kumari Pakhrin, a pregnant woman of Mahabharat-7, Bankhu, was rescued by a heli ambulance. Most of the roads in Mahabharat rural municipality are unpaved. Pregnant women have to be rescued by helicopter as there is no condition for regular movement of vehicles on these roads due to rain.

Stating that the President-Women Upliftment Programme has been effective in remote areas, Chairman Zimba said many women in rural areas have benefited from it.
