Kathmandu. Kathmandu: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said the relations between Nepal and China based on civilizational historical foundation and cultural proximity have been further enriched with mutual respect and people-to-people intimacy.
Speaking at a programme organised to mark the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Nepal and the People’s Republic of China, Prime Minister Oli said nepal-China relations have become stronger and deeper over the past decade based on mutual trust.
“Nepal firmly supports the one-China policy. China has always respected Nepal’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and political independence. China is not only our closest neighbour but also a reliable development partner,” pm Oli said. There have been many historical turning points in this journey. Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to Nepal in 2019 was historic. It has elevated our relationship to the level of partnership of strategic cooperation based on long-term friendship and mutual trust with shared goals for development and prosperity. ”
Recalling his official visit to China in December 2024, Pm Oli said that the dialogues with the high-level Chinese leaders were very fruitful. “The signing of the Framework of Belt and Road Cooperation has strengthened our shared resolve,” he said.
“China’s cooperation in infrastructure and connectivity has helped Nepal cross geographical boundaries and our cooperation in areas such as agriculture, trade, transit, energy, health, digital technology and climate resilientness continues to expand,” he said.
“Nepal attaches high priority to cooperation with China in protecting the Himalayas and fragile ecological systems along our borders. The first Sagarmatha Dialogue held this year was a meaningful step in this direction. The recent flood in the Lingde rivulet caused extensive damage on both sides of the border. This has further strengthened the need for joint efforts for disaster preparedness, early information systems and sustainable mountain development. Prime Minister Oli said, “Nepal highly respects the unique achievements made by China in national revival and modernity. Lifting millions of people out of poverty, becoming a leader in innovation and sustainable development, and playing a leadership role in international cooperation – all of these are inspirational to the world. These achievements have contributed to stability and progress not only to China, but to the entire region and the world. We are also moving towards our national aspiration of prosperous Nepal, happy Nepali with these inspirations. ”
