Nepal-China bilateral relations enter 70th year

Kathmandu. Kathmandu: Nepal-China diplomatic relations have entered its 70th year from today. The 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations is being celebrated here and in Beijing today by organizing various programs.

The historical relationship that began informally after princess Bhrikuti’s marriage to King Srongchan Gampo of Tibet has become even more fluid in the modern era. Diplomatic relations with China, established in 1949, were established on august 1, 1955.

Former Ambassador of Nepal to China Rajeshwor Acharya said that both the countries have accorded high priority to Nepal-China relations based on the principles of Panchsheel including peaceful coexistence, mutual cooperation, geographical integrity, respect for sovereignty and non-interference.

China, a permanent member of the UN Security Council, has been playing a decisive role in global politics, emphasizing on effective law-based world governance, international peace and security, cooperation and partnership to build a common future, he said. Former Ambassador Acharya suggested that China, which has become a world power, should take maximum benefit from the development achieved and move the country towards prosperity.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is scheduled to attend a reception to be hosted by Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Chen Sung here this evening, according to the Prime Minister’s Private Secretariat.
