Mountain. Kaligandaki River has reached its peak due to incessant rains. The river level has risen due to heavy rainfall in Mustang, Myagdi, Baglung and Parbat. According to Gesreader Krishna Prasad Subedi, the water level in the Kaligandaki River has reached the highest level in this year.
He said the river has been flowing at an altitude of 6 meters and 40 centimeters since morning. This is the highest measurement this year.
Earlier this morning, it had reached the level of 7.40 meters. He said that there is a possibility of decreasing the flow as the rain has stopped. The residents of the coastal areas are at risk due to the rise in the flow of kaligandaki river. Bagarphant, Waribeni, Milanchowk, Lasti, Khaniyaghat of Jaljala rural municipality, Maldhunga, Nayapul, Modiveni of Kushma municipality, Jaiminighat of Falewas municipality and Setiveni bazaar of Bihadi rural municipality are at high risk.
Shaligram Shila, the world’s largest rock located on the border of Bahable Parbat, Syangja and Gulmi, has also been inundated. Priests and pandits working in the area are also worried as the rock has been inundated. Tilak Parajuli informed that all the structures including Pravitra Shaligram Shila and Sattal of Shaligram area have been submerged. He said that the embankment and gabion built for the protection of the rock have also been completely damaged due to the water.
Setiveni bazaar on the border of Parbat, Syangja and Gulmi is at risk of inundation due to flooding caused by the dam of Kaligandaki ‘A’ Hydropower Project. All the gates of the dam have been opened. Around 200 traders and the general public in the market areas of Parbat and syangja are at risk due to the fear of inundation of Setibeni Bazaar due to the rise in the flow of Kaligandaki and Seti rivulets.
Around three dozen families were displaced when kaligandaki and seti rivulets overflowed 16 years ago. Bishnu Neupane, a local businessman, said that the incident of inundation of the market area on October 21, 2066 BS has always added to the fear among them. He said shaligram rock, the world’s largest, has been submerged but has not yet reached the market.
