Kathmandu. Acting Prime Minister Prakash Man Singh has directed all government agencies to take necessary precautions in view of the risk of monsoon-related disasters.
Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, Defence Minister Manvir Rai, Chief Secretary Ek Narayan Aryal and Executive Chief of National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority Dinesh Bhatta were present at the meeting.
In the meeting, he took information about the weather and possible risks in different parts of the country and directed to be prepared, avoid damage if the incident takes place, and remain on high alert for search and rescue.
He also directed to make the sms alert, local media and security agencies effective in the areas of potential risk.
In the meeting, NEA Executive Chief Bhatta informed that the water supply system was active in Dang, Banke and Bardiya of Lumbini Province. Bardiya region is likely to be inundated in the next four to five hours as heavy rainfall has crossed the danger level in the western part of the Babai river and Rapti river, he said.
Similarly, Acting Prime Minister Singh also expressed concern over the drought situation in Madhes province. On the occasion, NEA Chief Bhatta said light rainfall was taking place in Madhes and 80 per cent of the sowing had taken place. The meeting was informed about the possibility of heavy rainfall in Kailali and Kanchanpur tonight.
Monsoon is also expected to be active in Makawanpur. Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak shared that instructions have been issued to the Chief District Officers, chiefs of district-based security bodies and chief administrative officers of local levels not to leave their workplaces unless absolutely necessary in view of the monsoon-related disasters.
