Kathmandu. The Department of Information and Broadcasting has postponed the registration and renewal of online media. Issuing a notice today, the Department informed that the registration and renewal work has been stopped by the Department.
According to the Department, there is a provision for online registration from the District Administration Office as per the provisions of the Printing press and Publication Act, 2048, which the government has amended some Nepal Acts.
According to the Department, the registration and renewal of online media (online magazines), which was being carried out as per the Online Media Operation Guidelines, 2073 BS, has been postponed for the time being as it is necessary to align it with the new legal system.
“Based on the information published in the Gazette in the above context, this department is requested to inform that the registration and renewal of online media (online magazines) being carried out in accordance with the Online Media Operation Guidelines, 2073 BS has been postponed,” reads the notice. ’
Online media registration will be mandatory as per Section 79B added to the Printing Press and Publication Act, 2048 BS. According to this section, a person interested in running an online media will have to apply to the local authority with the prescribed fee.
