Turkmenistan. Kathmandu: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has urged the world community to work together to reduce the pace of melting of glaciers.

Addressing a ‘side event’ on the impact of climate change on landlocked developing countries due to melting of glaciers, PM Oli said that our Himalayas can be saved through concrete actions.

“Don’t let the sounds of the mountains die under the melting ice. Nepal is ready to work, lead and partner together to protect the mountains. May our steps inspire the global community to work on climate justice,” he said, adding, “The Himalayas are not only a source of life and livelihood for billions of people, it is our identity, national pride, our present and future.” It is also a means of recharging the Himalayas and oceans. ’

Prime Minister Oli made it clear that nepal’s efforts to prevent the extinction of the mountains, which are the cooling center of the earth, would be fulfilled only if the carbon emitting countries show seriousness. He said that the problem of melting glaciers is not only a matter of environmental concern for countries like Nepal, but it is a constant threat to the heart of our development, security and existence.

“Nepal has been devastated by the floods caused by glacial lake bursts. The glacial lake burst and the devastating flood at Rasuwagadhi, the border point of Nepal and China, caused human and physical damage. Such climate-related disasters are recurring. Such threats may arise in the future as well,” he said, adding, “Due to this, the risks to our agriculture, hydropower, tourism and biodiversity are increasing.” These threats extend beyond our national borders. They can put our future at risk. Therefore, there is a need for a global partnership in this regard, Nepal is ready to increase that partnership. ’
