Gulmi. The Kaligandaki Corridor road, which has been obstructed since Wednesday morning due to landslides triggered by incessant rains, has come into operation.
The kaligandaki corridor road has been completely obstructed for the past two days due to a landslide at Rakse of Kaligandaki rural municipality-2 in Gulmi section.
Information Officer at the District Police Office, Ganga Bahadur Saru, said that the road has been fully operational for some time after the road construction company, which has been working in the area to operate the obstructed road, cleared the landslide accumulated on the road through a excavator.
Similarly, the Ridi-Tamghas road section of Gulmi, which has been blocked since this morning due to landslides triggered by incessant rainfall, is yet to come into operation. The road section has been obstructed due to landslide at Bakhre Bhir of Rurukshetra Rural Municipality-3.
Information Officer and Deputy Superintendent of Police Saru said that although efforts were being made to operate the obstructed road, it was difficult to operate the road as the landslide from above the road had not stopped.
Vehicles are now plying in the area using the alternative road from Rurukshetra-3 water tank to Thorga to Salbisauna. A parallel JV and Elite Company are working on widening and blacktopping the 25-km road on the Ridi-Tamghas road section under the Madanbhandari Highway.
Light to moderate rainfall has been taking place in Gulmi and adjoining areas for the past three days. The water level on the banks of Badigad Rivulet and Kaligandaki River has been rising due to incessant rainfall. The District Administration Office has been urging the people living in the coastal areas to remain alert and settle in safe places, saying the risk of floods and landslides may increase.
