Kathmandu. In today’s meeting of the House of Representatives( HoR), lawmakers have demanded that the house should be informed about the process of repatriation of the bodies of Nepalis who died after consuming spurious liquor in Kuwait and the health condition of the workers undergoing treatment. During the emergency hour of the meeting, the lawmakers demanded to inform about the condition of Nepalis who have fallen ill after consuming spurious liquor in Kuwait.
Lawmaker Rama Koirala Poudyal demanded that the government inform the House about the incident, saying 12 people have died in Kuwait after consuming pesticide-laden liquor and some people are undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit. He said that the government should inquire about the condition of Nepalis as there are reports that the government has started a crackdown on the workers after this incident. Similarly, the orientation training given to the workers going abroad is not enough, poudyal said.
Lawmaker Janardan Sharma urged the parliament to inform the parliament about the process being carried out to bring back the bodies of those who died after consuming spurious liquor in Kuwait and the health condition of those undergoing treatment. He also drew the attention of the Parliament to the issue of road connectivity being damaged due to floods and landslides and increasing risk of accidents.
Stating that the earthquake victims of Jajarkot living in temporary shelters have been further affected by the rainy season, Lawmaker Sharma drew the attention of the concerned bodies to speed up the reconstruction.
In today’s meeting, the opposition lawmakers also accused the ruling party of conspiring to remove the Deputy Speaker. Lawmaker Santosh Pariyar said it was unfortunate that the ruling parties were doing their homework to relieve Deputy Speaker Indira Rana of her post.
He was of the view that the ruling party should not issue a whip and collect signatures and imprison the conscience of the lawmakers. Stating that the executive has interfered with the legislature, Pariyar said such acts would endanger democracy.
Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) lawmaker Roshan Karki accused the Nepali Congress and the Nepal Communist Party (UML) of signing blank papers to impeach the deputy speaker. He said that the present government, which did not investigate the Home Minister in the visit visa case, was discouraging small parties by bringing out the old issues related to the Deputy Speaker.
Karki also accused the government of hatching a conspiracy to relieve Deputy Speaker Rana from his post to ensure majority in the Constitutional Council to appoint people of his favour in the constitutional body.
Lawmaker Mahesh Kumar Bartola raised the issue of one person being killed and eight others injured in lightning strike at Manahari rural municipality-6 in Makawanpur district. He demanded that the government should increase the relief amount provided by the government to the families of those killed in disaster-related incidents including lightning.
Rukmini Rana Baraili stressed the need for implementing effective laws to control violence against women. He drew the attention of the House to the incidents of violence against women.
Lawmaker Mahendra Raya Yadav urged the government to establish an area police office in Haripurwa municipality of Sarlahi district and maintain peace and security. Similarly, the problem of drinking water and irrigation still persists in the Tarai region, he said.
Lawmaker Dr Amresh Kumar Singh raised the issue of the killing of former teacher Ram pukar Rai in Haripurwa and demanded to ensure the security of life and property of the citizens. He alleged that the two major ruling parties were intimidating the smaller parties. He alleged that the government’s interference in the judiciary has increased.
Lawmaker Abdul Khan said the killing of people due to attacks by wild animals, including tigers, in Bardiya district has not stopped. He demanded that serious initiatives should be taken by the state agencies to prevent tiger attacks.
Lawmaker Basudev Ghimire said that only 253 municipalities have formulated land use policy so far. He opined that the federal and state governments should facilitate the local levels for the implementation of the land use policy.
Minister for Women, Children and Senior Citizens Nawal Kishore Sah Sudi will present a proposal in today’s meeting seeking consideration of the Children (First Amendment) Bill, 2082 BS. Similarly, Minister Sudi is scheduled to submit a proposal to send the Human Trafficking and Trafficking (Control) (First Amendment) Bill, 2081 bs to the concerned committee for clause-wise discussion.
