Washington. U.S. President Donald Trump said On Tuesday he would not send U.S. troops to protect Ukraine from Russia. However, he had left such a possibility open a day earlier.

In a TV interview, Trump said ukraine’s hope of entering NATO and getting the Crimea peninsula back from Russia was “impossible”. Republican President Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and other European leaders held lengthy talks at the White House on Monday to end the Russia-Ukraine war. Responding to a question from reporters, Trump denied sending US troops under the security guarantee sought by Zelensky.

After a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska last week, Trump said Putin was open to security guarantees for Ukraine. But on Fox News’ Fox and Friends program on Tuesday, he made it clear that us forces will not go to defend ukraine’s borders, saying, “You have my assurance, and I am the president.” ’

Trump will have no control over the U.S. military when his term ends in January 2029. White House Press Secretary Carolyn Levitt also confirmed that us forces will not remain on the ground under any peace mission. ’

Trump said in the interview that he hoped to reach a possible agreement to end the Russian attack. However, he stressed that Ukraine should set aside its desire to get back Crimea or join NATO. “Both these things are impossible. ’

Putin has been pushing for the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from donetsk and Luhansk regions and recognition of Crimea as Russian territory. On Monday, Trump said he was making arrangements for direct talks between Putin and Zelensky.

However, the Kremlin has not yet said whether Putin is willing to meet directly with the Ukrainian leader. “Putin has already promised to meet,” Levitt told reporters. ’

Trump said he was pushing for a trilateral dialogue between Zelensky, Putin and himself, adding, “If necessary, there will be a tripartite meeting, but first Putin-Zelensky will be face-to-face.” ’

Putin’s foreign adviser Yuri Ushakov gave no indication that a bilateral or trilateral meeting had been agreed with Ukraine. Expressing confidence that Putin’s decision will be clear in the next two weeks, Trump said, “I think Putin is tired of this war, everyone is tired.” But what will happen will be known within two weeks. ’
