Kathmandu. Every year on the day of Bhadrakrishna Aunsi, the Kushe Aunsi festival is being celebrated by the Vedic Sanatan religion by bringing the holy Kush used in devkarma and father’s work throughout the year.
According to the scriptural method, there is a religious belief that keeping kush in the house worshiped by brahmins and taken to Jajman will benefit the family. Prof Dr Ram Chandra Gautam, a theologian and former chairman of The Nepal Panchang Jury Development Committee, said that it is a classical belief that kush uprooted on this day can be used throughout the year and kush uprooted on other days can be used only on that day.
Followers of Sanatan dharma consider Kush, Tulsi, Peepal and Shaligram as symbols of Lord Vishnu. There is a religious belief that Brahmaji, the Creator, also created holy Kush along with rational beings. On this day, the kush kept in the house is used in the deity work and father’s work throughout the year.
Paternal honor
On this occasion, the children show respect by feeding sweets and food to their father according to tradition and look at the father’s face. He goes to various holy places where he does not have a father and performs tarpan, pind daan and shraddha in the name of his father.
On this day, a special fair is organized in the premises of Gokarneshwor Mahadev Temple in the north-eastern part of Kathmandu, especially known as Uttargaya. That is why today’s Aunsi is also known as Gokarne Aunsi. On this occasion, people have gathered in the premises of Gokarneshwor Mahadev Temple to offer tarpan, pind daan and sidadan in the name of the departed father.
Chairman of Gokarneshwor Municipality-4, Jairam Mahat, told RSS that all preparations have been made for the fair. Similarly, fairs are also held at Vetrawati, the confluence point of Rasuwa and Nuwakot. Even in Betravati, the father reaches the departed tarpan, sidadan and pinddan.
According to the religious belief of ‘Pitradevo Bhava’, on this day, children get happiness if they get blessings by feeding their living father according to their choice. Since the father has passed away, it is mentioned in the scriptures called Buddhaokta Parajikaya that if he goes to Gokarna or other pilgrimage sites and offers tarpan and sidadan, he will get virtue and stabilize his family.
On this day, even if you donate a little, you get thousands of times more fruit, so it is also called Punya Parva. Gautam said that there is a classical saying that both the giver and the receiver go to hell if the donation falls into evil. There is a classical belief that even if other donations are given to the poor, the donations given by compilation should be given in the right way.
