Kathmandu. Traffic movement on nine different roads across the country has been completely disrupted due to incessant rain. According to a notice issued by the Department of Roads here today, nine different roads have been obstructed due to floods and landslides, while one-way traffic has come into operation on 151 road sections.
According to the information, 211 out of 371 road sections across the country have been fully opened. Information Officer at the Department of Roads, Amit Kumar Sharma, said that the road has been obstructed due to floods, landslides and inundation, problems in vehicular movement, bridge washed away, bridge and road construction and other repair works.
“In some places, roads are yet to be restored due to floods and landslides,” he said. Landslide removal work is underway in some places. ’
According to the Department, the Galchhi-Trishuli-Mailung-Syapubensi-Rasuwagadhi road section has been completely blocked due to floods from China after the glacial lake burst on July 15. Similarly, the southern section of the Karnali Corridor has also been completely blocked due to the rising water level in the Paima River in Humla.
The North-South Koshi Highway has also been completely blocked due to rising water level and construction of bridges. According to the Department, the Chatura-Mulghat-Majhitar-Amrapur Danda-Ganeshchowk road section of the Tamor corridor has been obstructed due to the flooding of the Bailey Bridge on July 15.
The Thori-Rasuwagadhi road at Tatopani-Timure has also been completely blocked. According to the Department, the Chhinchu-Marim road section under bheri corridor in West Rukum has also been completely blocked.
“The Shaheed Highway in Rolpa is also completely blocked. The department’s data states, “The work of removing the landslide will be done only after the rain stops as the landslide is occurring after continuous rain.”
Similarly, the road section at Sindhupalchowk along the Araniko Highway has been completely blocked. ’
