Rasuwa. The construction of hydropower projects in the district has been affected due to lack of movement of goods vehicles on the Syafrubesi-Rasuwagadhi section of the highway.
The construction work of Rasuwagadhi Hydropower Project has been affected due to non-supply of necessary equipment and materials for repair and reconstruction after the flood on July 15 damaged the dam at the source of the project.
According to Rasuwagadhi Hydropower Company, although the tunnel and hydropower house are safe, there is a problem in transporting and managing equipment including rods and cement required to repair the dam of the source after it was completely damaged.
Managing Director of the company, Satyaram Jyakhwa, said that with the opening of the track on the road damaged due to the flood, only light vehicles could move, but due to the lack of large cargo vehicles, other works, including the maintenance of the damaged structures of the hydropower project, could not be carried out.
According to the company, the 111 MW Rasuwagadhi Hydropower Plant has been damaged due to floods in the Lhende rivulet, causing a loss of more than Rs 10 million per day due to the shutdown of power generation.
Managing Director Of Rasuwagadhi Power Generation Station, Jyakhwa, said that the company has incurred a loss of Rs 728.87 million due to the breakdown of the structure of rasuwagadhi power generation station, which produces 2.664 million units of electricity daily. According to Rasuwagadhi Hydropower Company, around Rs 3.5 billion has been damaged due to the damage caused by the floods.
Stressing the need to extend the time period for repaying the loan after the electricity generation failed to take place, the managing director urged the government to create an environment for the operation of the blocked road section as soon as possible.
It has been clarified that the project has not been able to carry forward the repair work due to lack of environment for large vehicles to bring the stone breaking equipment brought by the flood along with the construction materials as the flood has brought huge stones in the dam of the source and damaged the cement structures on the surface of the dam.
On the other hand, Chief of Galchhi-Mailung Road Improvement Project Khadga Lal Shrestha said that the track up to Rasuwagadhi could be opened within four to five days and the Chinese government has completed the construction of Miteri bridge over Lhenda khola. The Hydropower Centre has complained that the work of hydropower projects of national pride is in limbo due to the work targeting the border.
Civil society, Rasuwa, has demanded the construction of a two-lane road at the earliest to transport goods for repairing the source of rasuwagadhi hydropower project.
The revenue collection of Rasuwa Customs has come down to zero due to the complete blockade of the road. Chief Customs Officer Tulsi Prasad Bhattarai said the target of collecting Rs 40.16 billion annually and Rs 7 billion in July-August would not be met under any circumstances due to the closure of the road.
