Kathmandu. The United States of America has welcomed the appointment of Sushila Karki as the Prime Minister of the Interim Government of Nepal.

The U.S. Embassy in Kathmandu in a statement today welcomed the peaceful resolution after last week’s tragic events. “We commend President Ram Chandra Poudel and youth leaders for their commitment to democratic solution.

“We honour the Nepal Army and Chief of Army Staff Ashok Raj Sigdel for their significant role in facilitating the transition and restoring peaceful civilian government and order,” reads the statement.

The United States has said its interim government stands ready to work with Nepal as it prepares for new elections in the coming months. President Poudel appointed former Chief Justice Karki as the Prime Minister of the interim government on September 12.
