Birgunj. Last week’s agitation caused a loss worth three million rupees due to vandalism and arson at the office of Nepal Telecom at Ghantaghar, Birgunj.
Telecom was the first target of the protest on September 24. According to Pankaj Sah, chief of Nepal Telecom, Birgunj, goods worth around three crore rupees have been damaged due to the mob of the group.
“The demonstrators have torched both the Nepal Telecom offices at Ghantaghar”, he said, adding, “The fire has caused a lot of damage to the tariff counters”. Chief District Officer (CDO) of Parsa, Toya Narayan Subedi, has directed the authorities concerned to prepare a transparent report on the vandalism and damage to the government offices.
“Buildings and vehicles of various government offices here have suffered irreparable damage during the agitation of the Genji group,” he said, adding, “I have directed the authorities to be transparent and realistic while preparing the details of the damages.” I have requested them to prepare audio-visuals and other structured materials when the documents are prepared. Birgunj Metropolitan City and Inland Revenue Office among others have been badly damaged.
