Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Sushila Karki has said that the protests and demonstrations led by Genji youths on September 7 and 24 reflected the aspirations of youths, growing awareness level of the people and dissatisfaction against the existing corruption in the country.

Addressing the main programme organised at the Army Pavilion in Tundikhel on the occasion of the Constitution Day and National Day-2082 today, the President said that the Nepali movement took birth because of the shortcomings in the field of good governance, prosperity and development as per the letter and spirit of the constitution.

“I have also seen this movement in relation to the health of our democratic system because democracy is a system to listen to the voice of the people, to hold dialogues and to seek solutions,” he said. ’

According to him, the movement of the Genji generation is also the result of failure to live up to the democratic norms and values including federal republican governance system, civil liberties, fundamental rights, human rights, full press freedom, independent, impartial and capable judiciary, rule of law and good governance.

He said issues such as employment opportunities, quality standard of living, transparency in government activities, legal equality, ending corruption, good governance and development raised by the younger generation were the common expectation and national agenda of all generations. The government was committed to carrying out works as per the people’s expectation by internalizing these agendas, he said.

“The recent agitation has guided us to reform in many areas. The younger generation wants to be part of the governance system. It wants to see the successful governance practices of developed countries in their country. “Therefore, on this occasion of Constitution Day, I would like to assure that this government will continue to work with determination to address the aspirations and aspirations of youths, women, children, differently-abled people, Dalits, indigenous nationalities, Madhesis, Tharus, backward classes, communities and all generations,” he said. ’

Stating that the reconstruction of public infrastructures damaged during the Genji movement and the losses incurred in business houses were challenges to uplift the country, the Prime Minister stressed the need of boosting the morale of the private sector, which is the vehicle of development, and holding the election on the slated date.

In this context, she called upon all youths, political parties, civil servants, private sector, development partners and the general public to join the mega campaign of reconstruction and development of damage.

Stating that there were innumerable complaints, anger and dissatisfaction of the people against the governance style at once, the Prime Minister assured that the incumbent government would make sincere efforts to address these problems to the extent possible within its means and capacity. The incumbent government pledged to be fully accountable to the citizens, expressing the belief that the citizens would also be aware of their duties.

Stating that the day the Constitution of Nepal promulgated by the Constituent Assembly through the representatives elected by the Nepali people was enthusiastically celebrated as the Constitution Day and National Day, the Prime Minister extended best wishes to all Nepalis on the occasion of completion of a decade of the constitution of the Federal Democratic Republic.

“The present constitution of Nepal is a guideline document that reflects the destiny, future and aspirations of Nepal and Nepalis,” the Prime Minister said, adding that the Constitution of Nepal embraced fundamental features like federalism, democracy, republic, inclusion and social justice is a day of pride for all Nepalis. ’

Stating that the Constitution Day was not only a celebration but also a day to evaluate the federal democratic republic, President Bhandari stressed the need to seriously review the issues regarding what were the achievements and what could not be achieved in the journey guided by the constitution during the last decade of the implementation of the new constitution.

“The constitution has provided the basis for distribution of power at the federal, provincial and local levels, quality and prompt service to the people and strengthening the local leadership. However, equal access to service delivery, transparency, good governance, end to corruption, optimum utilization of resources and technology, effectiveness in cost of public services and development management ensuring results are common challenges for all three tiers of government,” he said । ’

Stating that they were not the prime ministers with ambition for governance, she clarified that they could not remain silent even on the basis of requests from change-oriented youths and became the Prime Minister of the interim government in order to hand over responsibility to the people’s elected government through election to the House of Representatives within six months as per the constitution.

According to her, the Constitution of Nepal, built on the foundation of historic people’s movement of 2062/63 BS, has given a message to the world that ‘Nepali people are capable of carving their own destiny’. “We expect more actions as per the letter and spirit of the constitution rather than amending the constitution,” he said, adding, “For this, it is necessary to conduct the election of the House of Representatives scheduled for March 4 in a free, fair, less expensive and fear-free environment and to create ownership of all classes, regions and communities including the youths.” ’

On the occasion of the Constitution Day, he paid tribute to all the martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the past people’s movement and the recent Jenji movement and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. Prime Minister Karki wished speedy recovery of those injured in the Genji Movement and sorrowed over the unimaginable and irreparable loss to public and private property and industrial and business establishments during the agitation.

President Ram Chandra Poudel, Vice President Ram Sahaya Prasad Yadav, Chief Justice Prakash Man Singh Raut, Speaker Devraj Ghimire, National Assembly Chair Narayan Prasad Dahal, former Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai, chiefs and representatives of the constitutional bodies, high-ranking government officials, chiefs and office-bearers of the security bodies and chiefs of the foreign missions in Nepal were among those present on the occasion.
